Nutritional Philosophy – Super Foods for Natural Health

Dr. Lindsey’s Picks
REGION: SOUTH AMERICA
FOOD CURE: ALGAE: Natural Brain Booster
Used by indigenous people for millennia, this natural substance boasts an array of healing benefits. Most importantly is its ability to produce DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which is an omega 3 fatty acid that plays a key role in infant brain and eye development as well as adult health. DHA reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia, supports cardiovascular health, and significantly contributes to healthy skin and hair.
Here’s an interesting fact: most people believe that fish produce their own DHA, when in fact, it’s the algae in their food chain that makes fish a rich source of Omega Fatty Acids. But most of us don’t go fishing for algae, right? Instead, Dr. Lindsey recommends adding this amazing natural food to your diet through food that is fortified with DHA. From juice to tortilla shells to chocolate bars, you have so many choices. One of the easiest ways to get your DHA is in Genesis Today Omega Orange Juice. It’s creamy and delicious, and you can pick it up in the refrigerated section at Walmart.

FOOD CURE: NONI FRUIT: Anti-inflammatory
Noni fruit has been relied upon by locals for hundreds of years for a number of healing elements. Most importantly, when consumed orally, Noni promotes healthy digestion and stimulates immune function. Also a powerful antioxidant, Noni can be used to make liver spots on skin fade by applying it directly on the spots every day with a cotton swab.
While you can hunt down the Noni fruit, Dr. Lindsey recommends taking a pure liquid supplement to get your Noni, like Genesis Today Noni100 or Genesis Today Noni99, which you can pick up at Whole Foods Market or your local health foods store. It may taste a little bitter, but the health benefits certainly make up for that. Dr. Lindsey also says it’s best on an empty stomach in the morning. You can even incorporate it into a tea for an easy-to-drink option.
REGION: SOUTH AMERICA
FOOD CURE: GOLDENBERRY: Preventative Flu Fighter
Originally cultivated in the Incan Empire, Goldenberries are not your average fruit. Goldenberries are best noted for high amounts of carotene and bioflavonoids (Vitamin P). Studies have shown that these nutrients support anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, among many other benefits.
They are also a great source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and contain a good amount of dietary fiber and pectin. Unlike other fruits, these yummy berries contain protein. There are a few ways to eat Goldenberries, but Dr. Lindsey likes his dried right out of a bag or on top of his cereal.
REGION: AFRICA
FOOD CURE: YOHIMBE: Sexual Performance
This herb is native to West Africa, derived from the bark of the Yohimbe tree, and it has traditionally been used as an aphrodisiac. Its main active element is an alkaloid called yohimbine, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction and boost libido in both men and women.
Dr. Lindsey combines a few ingredients with Yohimbe to make a super libido shake. Simply blend 2 raw pasteurized eggs, 1 scoop of lecithin, Genesis Today Acai Berry Juice, 4 Vitamin E gel capsules, and 2 to 4 capsules of Yohimbe. Genesis Today Acai Berry Juice is easy to find in the refrigerated section of Walmart and other grocers, and you can find the other ingredients at your local health foods store.

FOOD CURE: DURIAN: Fever Reducer
Although dreadfully stinky –it’s even dubbed the “stinky feet fruit” and banned from most hotels!—the Durian Fruit is a very common food in Southeast Asia. It’s known for its sweet flavor and multiple health benefits. Durian contains a powerful compound called L-tryptophan and has been shown to lower fevers. The best place to find Durian fruit is in Asian markets in any major city.
REGION: EUROPE
FOOD CURE: PARSLEY: Natural Laxative
Parsley is so much more than an everyday garnish; it has incredible detoxifying powers and is a strong ally against allergies. Believe it or not, that little sprig of parsley contains Vitamin A, several B vitamins, calcium, iron and more Vitamin C by volume than an orange.
It has traditionally been used to treat females with bladder problems or urinary tract infections, as well as irregular or painful menstruation. Many people don’t know that the root also has laxative properties. Dr. Lindsey recommends using organic parsley, and instead of taking second helpings of the “garnish” at dinner parties, simply make a parsley tea or add it to a vegetable juice for maximum benefits.
